On my way to work this morning and saw this gem on a flat bed. Personally I wasn't a big fan of it before when I saw it in pictures, but after seeing it in person I actually like it quite a bit. As you can see from the photos, it looks like the new Reaper comes with some after market goodies, such as the dual light bars in the front bumper and Fox Racing Suspension

if the headlights formed to the shape of the grill it'd look 10x better . But now it's got that weird triangle of flat space
![]() 08/14/2014 at 12:02 |

That front end looks terrible. And I dont like the wheels very much.

If the headlights formed to the shape of the grill it'd look like a RAM 1500.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 12:06 |

This bit right here doesn't work at all. The thrust-forward grille makes the truck look cartoonishly angry while 'me too'ing the Ram. The F150 didn't need bad plastic surgery to become the raptor, I don't see why the Silverado does to become the Reaper.

These rimz are about 3 inches too big.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 12:13 |

That's not attractive. At all. The front end and bro wheels ruins it. I like the bumper though.

Holy hell is that thing ugly. And here I thought GM couldn't get past the bar they set with the 1998 trucks. Way to prove me wrong, GM!

just noticed that. Sloppy. I get headlights can be expensive so at least fit the hood/grill correctly. Hell even a fake piece of trim or vent would work. But that tiny over hang is a huge annoyance now that I see it

Honestly, I thought all of this was just a bad photoshop done by some intern. But, I was wrong. They really did intend to make it as ugly as the original renderings suggested.

if they had Honey-combed that triangle piece (or something, faux-carbon fiber?) and made it black, it wouldn't look so bad.

Yea I feel like they could have designed some cool headlights for it. but instead just said screw it, put new silverado head lights on it, and stick a few fancy light bars in the bumper

![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:07 |

Do they really expect to have any off road cred after throwing it "awn rimz"? Plus, Oh god, that grill is hideous.
I suspect this is not much more than just a lift kit with Fox shocks, but I'd be interested to see if this thing is any good off road.

"Corvette tuning legend Ken Lingenfelter and truck tuner Southern Comfort Automotive"
Sounds like a track truck not an offroad truck. Should have consulted King, Icon, anyone else in the offroad suspension world if you wanted to build something comparable to a Ford Raptor.

It's absolutely HILARIOUS how many reading challenged people frequent this web-site and can't wrap their heads around the fact that a product of two aftermarket companies, Lingenfelter and Southern Comfort Automotive = a product of Chevrolet
Um, the answer is NO!! Way to make yourselves look ludicrous and pathetic!

You mean the 1999 trucks? The 1998's were the same as the 1997's which were virtually the same as the 1996's...
![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:17 |
|
Yeah cool vents in that triangular area would have at least 'worked'
![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:18 |

Haha honestly I had no idea it was a product of lingenfelter and SCA. Don't much about the truck except its a raptor competitor. Just saw it, new what it was, and thought I should share it since it's a rare sighting. I apologize for not keeping up with the rest bro truck world, but I just don't care.

![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:19 |

It's so hideous. and it's already got the bro-truck wheels and lift. Everything about the Raptor is function over form.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:19 |

because rollin on 20s screams offroad... (rolls eyes)

"It's not a Chevrolet factory product" And that's why it's not competition for the Raptor. This may outperform the Raptor in every measurable way, but it doesn't matter because it's not an official GM product.

1998 was the last year of the C/Ks. In 1998, the 1999 was the beginning of the Silverado. This is all by model year though, not production year.

There's ugly, and then there's this. I don't usually criticize peoples' judgement as far as looks go, but if this was a 2500 duramax, it'd be the ultimate brodozer. Already stormtrooper'd out, LED bars everywhere, shit-tacular rockstar wheels with (albeit good) dinky looking General AT2's, gonna guess a body lift and no undercarriage protection whatsoever.
Behold, the mall crawler has reached apex status.

I did a writeup a while ago on OPPO
http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/what-makes-a-r…
But its important to remember two things about this truck....hideous thing...
1) Its not made by GM or Chevy...as many have stated is a 3rd party company building these trucks. Lingenfelter maks some awesome power products for chevy LS engines...This is not one of them...(even though the supercharger it has probably will make this truck haul some serious ass). Lingenfelter isn't even assosciated to GM the way Shelby is to Ford. Or AMG to Mercedes...or M to BMW...so lets not throw Chevy or GM under the bus for this thing...
2) As I wrote about in my article....The raptor has a completely different suspension from an F150...I go into more detail in my article but essentially the Reaper just has some upgraded shocks on it (Fox makes awesome shocks for what its worth) but its in no way a competitor to a Raptor. Whether it was intended to be or not is a different matter but if you put the two side by side off road this wouldn't stand a chance...and it wouldn't do much better than a standard Chevy 1500....because they have the same suspension underneath (minus of course the shocks)
![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:35 |

That's really ugly.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:38 |

whats funny about this truck is one of my local dealers sells "bayou" versions of the trucks and aside from the grille change, the do all the same upgrades but it doesnt look totally horrible. It comes with almost all your bro truck needs. http://assets.cobaltnitra.com/teams/reposito…
![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:40 |

Nice try, Chevrolet. But that thing is hideous. Your modern truck facia is shit and the lights don't translate... at all in this case.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:44 |

Edit: Now I'm an idiot. I didn't realize you were the original source of the photo.
But my point stands for everyone else blaming/crediting Chevy for this.

Kinda has a 70s buick rivera thing going on.
![]() 08/14/2014 at 13:56 |

Such a tacky front end. First, it doesn't fit into the rest of the truck. Second, it's a sign that they should have given this thing that angular look in the 2014 re-design. The Raptor was a much more polished product.

Oh, I had no intent on disparaging the truck or your photos :) It's an interesting truck, and it may show GM that there's enough demand for them to directly compete with the Raptor to get them to do something themselves.

I always thought the late 90's, early 2000's GMs looked good. It was the 2003 facelift that I thought set the ugly bar.
